Thank you for checking our support page.

First, let me explain why we need your support.

The harsh environment surrounding temples and priests in Japan.

As of 2022, there are approximately 77,000 Buddhist temples in Japan.

Japan may seem to be a prosperous place for Buddhism, but in reality, 17,000 temples have no head priest. And 40% of temples have an annual temple income of less than 3 million yen; 3 million yen is approximately 21,000 US dollars.

Compared to the average annual income of the American congregation is $242,910, you can see how Buddhist temples in Japan are in a difficult financial situation. (Reference Link: 17+ Shocking Church Revenue Statistics for 2022 AD)

There are shocking predictions that nearly half of all Buddhist temples will disappear in 30 years.

This website is operated by me, a Buddhist monk in Japan.

I (かっけい) am a Japanese Buddhist monk.

Kagawa Prefecture is the smallest prefecture in Japan, but is home to approximately one million people. In Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, I am in a Buddhist temple called Enryuji Temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect.

Enryuji Temple was founded in 1575 and I am the 24th generation.

Kagawa is a small place, but many people live there and there are many special products such as olive trees, udon noodles, and uchiwa (Japanese fans).

Through this website, I am sharing information about Kagawa as well as Buddhism with people not only in Japan but also all over the world. The Japanese version of the website has been going on since 2016 and the English version since 2017. In addition, from 2019, we will start an audio podcast, which has delivered more than 150 episodes so far.

To sustain and develop the temple and website.

All public content on this Enryuji website (kaxtukei.com) is free and open to all.

In addition, my Enryuji Temple does not receive any mandatory money from its believers for temple maintenance or activities. The reason for this is to ensure that visitors to the temple do not feel any financial burden.

However, as a practical matter, maintaining a website to disseminate information requires various expenses such as server fees, domain fees, data backup, and fees for external services.

Therefore, we would like to make a request so that the Enryuji Monk Blog can continue to disseminate information to the world.

If it is possible, we would be very grateful if you could support us with operating funds.

Three types of support amounts.

To avoid placing a large burden on each supporter, we have prepared three support plans that can be started from a small amount.

7 cents per day (333 yen per month)

The smallest fixed amount is 333 yen per month of support.

333 yen in Japanese yen is about $2 to $3 in U.S. dollars.

The amount of support is about 10 yen (about 7 cents) per day.

12 cents per day (555 yen per month)

The next amount of support is about 12 cents per day. In Japanese yen, this is 555 yen per month.

555 yen in Japan is about the cost of a cheap lunch at a restaurant.

That is about 12 cents per day and is the largest amount of support I am asking for.

1.5 cents per day (777 yen per year)

For those who want to support us but don’t want to do it every month, we also offer a support plan for 777 yen per year.

This amount is about 1.5 cents per day.

Although 777 yen is less than the size of Japan’s smallest bill, the 1,000 yen bill, we believe that with your generous support, we can help in a far greater way.

The wider the circle of support, the more activities will be enhanced!

The more supporters we have, the more we can expand the size and content of the site to connect you with Buddhism. It will also help to encourage new activities.

For example, the Enryuji Temple website has developed a English page to provide information on Buddhism and Japan to foreign countries. It is very difficult to transmit information to foreigners with different cultures and in a language that is not their native tongue. In such cases, with assistance, it may be possible to request native speakers to correct the text.

Our immediate goal is to remove Google Adsense ads from web pages written in English once our monthly support exceeds $100. This should make the web pages more readable and display faster.

My long-term goal is to have my podcast audio distributed in English. I have been providing audio podcasts in Japanese every Tuesday since 2016. I am a monk and talk about my daily feelings and Buddhism in about 10 minutes.

I can manage to write English sentences with the help of machine translations and books, but I cannot hear or speak English. I do not know if it is feasible because it depends on my ability, but if there are many people who support me, I would like to be able to speak and listen to English and deliver audio in English in order to respond to their support.

If everyone’s circle of support expands, it will be very helpful for the development of the website and the activities of Enryuji Temple.

Thank you for your all help in advance.

If you are willing to give us about 12 cents a day, we would be happy to have your support.
